It is Written – Saturday

Read the scripture passage through once and then sit silently for one minute. Read the passage a second time and then reflect on the word or phrase that spoke to you.

Devotion: The world upside down; that is what the prophet Isaiah pronounces in this passage. I am not exactly a news junkie but I watch just enough of it to keep informed of what is happening in our world. The on-going saga of the war in Iraq and Afghanistan and now the recent attacks in Mumbai remind us that the world is not there yet. It is not a peaceful place and yet the prophet tells the reader of a peaceful kingdom where nothing will be as we would expect it to be. Are you doing anything in your life, workplace, or home setting to begin to usher in the peaceful kingdom of God? What if your life at work and/or home was not like everyone else’s but rather was ruled by the peace of Christ? Some might think you weird; other might simply envy what you have purposed to live.

Prayer: God. I want peace in my life but do so little to strive for it. Much of life is about my wants and desires and placing myself in priority over everyone else. My spouse, my family, my kids, friends, and so many others often come in a distant second to me. Help me to put me aside and begin to be a person who purposes to be peaceful and who works for it each and everyday.
Amen.
