2009 and the Daily Bible

New Year’s Day…new year! 2009 has arrived and with it I start over on my one year Bible reading plan! Wanna guess where it starts? Yes Genesis! I know there are arguments or simply difference of opinions regarding whether Genesis is a literal account of creation or a competing metaphor in a panoply of narratives from Ancient cultures. Frankly it is all speculative interpretation since not a one of us personally experienced either creation or the writing of the account! Put that aside…God separated the light from the darkness! I find it amazing that we talk about goodness in terms of light and evil using the term darkness. If you are one who agrees with metaphor could it be that God separated good from evil in the beginning?

The other thing that caught my eye was the two trees identified. Honestly I have read this passage at least 50 times or more but it really has not caught my imagination in the way that it did today! The tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil! God says that humanity can eat of any tree except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. By exclusion from the conversation I am guessing that meant humanity could eat of the tree of life! Gee, I wonder what it tasted like????
