Buzz Words

Buzz words – fan or foe? I like the richness of the English language and the fact that many words have synonyms. But I find it disturbing how we get stuck on certain words. Paradigm, hope, green technology, eco-friendly, compassionate conservatism, right wing, left wing, centrist, and now “historic.” Do you get the drift? I am ambivalent about who is in power regarding the presidency and other elected officials. What I am not ambivalent to is the use of words and historic is quickly becoming a word that is running its course in my hearing! Please do not get me wrong. I am not trying to discount the significance of the new variables experienced this week. I guess I am simply railing against the apparent lack of command of the English language in describing the unique attributes of a moment in the timeline of our Democratic experiment! Or in simpler words…this “historic” occasion.
