What Will It Take?

Who is the last person you shared Jesus with?  Or what is your fear?  What keeps you from sharing Jesus?  I would be intrigued to hear your stories and/or reasons so please leave a comment after reading.

Answers to these questions might help us understand how to break through – where God needs to break through so that we can be God’s voice crying out in the wilderness of this chaotic world.

Last week we finished our message series Driven talking about Paul who was driven to share Jesus.  Here is the question that I asked with the intent of creating a goal for us:  What will it take for us (North Star Church) to reach 300 adults and 100+ kids in worship by the beginning of 2014?

The Apostle Paul was driven to share the story of Jesus Christ as the risen son of God.  But not to people who had already heard the story – he was driven to share it wherever it had not reached yet (see Romans 15:20).

I want to be like Paul – to be driven by God to share Jesus’ story with people who don’t know it.  As I have thought about this over the years I have implemented my steps to see this characteristic develop in me:

1)  Form a new relationship in the local community with someone I do not know.

2)  Engage them in ongoing conversation moving from the mundane to life questions.

3)  Be courageous enough to share why I believe Jesus is the answer to my questions as well as theirs.

4)  Be on purpose with the objective of inviting my new friend to Christmas Eve services this year.

Now this is my plan and I pray daily that God will empower it with the Holy Spirit and that I be open to any new opportunity that arises to walk these steps.

So what are your steps to engaging someone with the purpose of sharing Jesus’s story with them?  Friends – that is why we exist as the church!  The hymn says “I’ve a story to tell to the nations…a story of love and life.”

There is wisdom in the old phrase “silence is golden” BUT it does not apply to sharing your faith.  Putting your faith talk on MUTE is not being a disciple of Jesus Christ.

So what will it take to reach a goal of 300 adults and 100+ kids by the beginning of 2014?  It will take 120 of us acting like the Apostle Paul – driven to share Jesus’ story with people who have not heard it.

Join me in telling the story of Jesus to our neighbors and friends.  Be the voice of love and life.
